The inaugural USTA Southern HBCU Alumni Red Ball Tennis Mixer, held on September 19th, lit up Atlanta during the HBCU National Tennis Championships with an unforgettable night of celebration, competition, and community. Fifty HBCU alumni and supporters came together to honor tradition and legacy, starting with an energizing warmup led by Fitness Collective before hitting the courts for spirited red ball matches.

With DJ Tron keeping the music flowing, guests enjoyed mocktails from On the Rocx, delicious bites from Green Feens Organic, and Stella Artois chalices, while connecting with old friends and forming new ones.
“The HBCU Alumni Red Ball Mixer was truly one of the highlights of the HBCU National Championships; from the tennis to the food, everything was incredible! The energy and vibes were unmatched, and watching alumni from across HBCUs connect so effortlessly while embracing the spirit of friendly competition was truly inspiring. This event clearly reflected USTA Southern’s strong support for HBCUs, especially with the $1,000 grand prize to a deserving team. I can’t wait to see this event grow even more next year!”

The evening was more than just fun; it also gave back. Attendees received USTA Southern swag bags and personal mixer shot glasses, and the event doubled as a fundraiser for the HBCU with the largest alumni and supporter turnout. Howard University proudly claimed that honor, while The Panthers earned bragging rights as Red Ball team champions, complete with championship chains. The mixer showcased the energy and excellence of HBCU alumni and highlighted tennis as a unifying force for community, tradition, and impact.

“The HBCU Alumni Red Ball Mixer was more than a celebration, it was a powerful reflection of the legacy, pride, and unity that define our HBCU community. Watching alumni from across generations and states connect both on and off the court was truly inspiring. This event showed how tennis can serve as a dynamic bridge for culture, community, and impact, while also opening doors to new partnerships that could help elevate HBCU tennis programs. I’m proud that USTA Southern created a space where that energy and excellence could thrive during this championship.”
